- Though having lived in the Washington, DC area for then years, Luis Ferrer's roots lay in the richly textures landscape and culture of his native Puerto Rico. Schooled as a Chemical Engineer, Luis turned his immensely creative talents toward the fine arts. A graduate of Virginia's George Mason University with a degree in Fine Arts, Luis's artistic output covers a wide spectrum and tells of an artist whose interests are at once varied, complex, and multilayered. He infuses the old with the new; the spiritual with the sensual; the plain with the textured. Working primarily with mixed media, Luis's works reflect both careful planning and spontaneity and dynamism. Luis describes his work as somewhat symbolic, yet objective expressions of his inner experience. He uses bold, gestural style with dramatic color transitions- dark hues and earth tones accented with vivid splashes- on surfaces and materials that reach into the observer's space. Luis considers the medium with which he works to be as important as the completed piece and brings to his subject matter and themes a thoughtful, mystical approach.
